MESSAGES FROM THE DOE

NYCDOE Safe Schools

Resilient Kids, Safer Schools: Students do better when they feel protected and supported in the classroom. In the 2019-20 school year, we introduced a new framework for teaching students how to resolve conflict, build relationships, and keep our school communities safe.

Bullying / Respect for All: Respect for All helps you understand you can do about bullying, whether your child is a victim, perpetrator, or witness.

Responding to Behavioral Crises: Schools must be prepared to manage student behavior in a behavioral crisis. Learn how schools reduce conflict and when they contact 911 for Emergency Medical Services.

School Safety: See the programs and services we have to make sure your child is safe and supported every day at school.

Suspensions: Get information about types of suspensions, alternative instruction, appeals and borough contacts.

Emergency Readiness: All schools train and drill staff and students in the General Response Protocol, which describes what to do in an emergency including evacuations, shelter-ins, or lockdowns.
